Description
These Proceedings report on an online symposium on 'Developing Resilient Urban Food Space Using Nature-based Solutions in Malaysia and the United Kingdom' which was held on the 20th and 21st May 2024. The Symposium aim was to explore knowledge, share understanding and explore possible wider research themes based on the interplay of food, health and place. There was a focus on how nature-based solutions (NbS) might positively impact on developing resilient cities and peri-urban areas in Malaysia and the United Kingdom in the face of climate change and social and economic inequality.
The Symposium was structured around a series of thematic and geographically based discussions on food, health and place issues in Malaysia and the United Kingdom with scholars and practitioners taking part as expert speakers, panel members and participants. The Symposium offered opportunities to:
- explore the scope of academic research underway among the Symposium partners and other invited scholars;
- increase academic knowledge, understanding and engagement on this thematic area including both research and teaching focused;
- consider innovative and best practice examples of ways to apply that learning in practice to benefit communities;
- identify further networking and research opportunities in partnership on food, health and NbS related academic, policy and practice-focused scholarship between the University of Hertfordshire and Universiti Putra Malaysia;
- increase engagement and understanding of joint research possibilities between the two institutions to build on the benefits of the existing formal partnership agreement; and
- identify and develop additional partnership working networking opportunities among scholars from a range of institutional backgrounds.
