Values-based Civil Society Leadership for Cultural Climate Adaptation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI)

This project integrates cultural strengthening with climate policy to enhance the resilience of the Yezidi community, other minorities and the Kurdish people in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). By addressing documented increases in regional security risks and hate speech, the initiative recognises that preserving cultural identity is essential for preventing future displacement and violence. The project empowers local NGOs to lead "cultural adaptation"—the use of local, informal and traditional knowledge for sustainability—and ensures that civil society leaders are empowered to go beyond existing environmental activities. Ultimately, it fosters partnerships between civil society and government to secure long-term, inclusive climate resilience, while delivering climate justice.
