An invitation to enter into a primary relationship with one another in the face of adversity

Abstract

Towards the end of last year I was gathering my thoughts for Barry Mason’s festschrift. Barry and I were on a video-call and I said that I was a little nervous about it, as I worried that I had misunderstood his ideas, or at least understood them differently to how he had meant them. He laughed and said “that’s the exciting part – to see how one’s ideas are used and taken into new directions by others”. So, this is where Barry’s idea of primary and secondary relationships within the context of chronic pain has taken me and I have taken it.
