Abstract
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common bacterial infections, especially in women, leading to significant antibiotic use. This presentation explored the pathogenesis, types, and risk factors associated with UTIs, including acute cystitis, acute pyelonephritis, catheter-associated UTIs, and asymptomatic bacteriuria. Emphasising the principles of antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), the session highlights the importance of accurate diagnosis, appropriate urine collection, and evidence-based treatment to combat antibiotic resistance. The role of common uropathogens such as Escherichia coli
