Abstract
As Old as the Hills was a community art project and exhibition held at the Zig Zag Building, Glastonbury, curated by Fiona Campbell and Jan Ollis as part of Somerset Art Works. Bringing together eleven artists, the exhibition explored themes of environment, transformation, and resilience through site-responsive works.
David Kefford presented a series of human-scale sculptural assemblages that explored the interplay between art and architecture within the unique context of the Zig Zag building. Carefully adapted to the atmosphere and layered history of the space, the sculptures entered into dynamic dialogue with the architecture and surrounding artworks. Their scarred, textured surfaces echoed the weathered interiors of the building, while a muted, earthy palette reinforced this connection. Many of the materials were salvaged from the River Cam near Cambridge, repurposed into fractured, otherworldly entities that reflect cycles of recovery, rebirth, and precarious endurance.
