Abstract

Because of Bangladesh's high illiteracy rates, CRWRC,a Canadian NGO, has decided to use traditional street theatre to raise awareness of issues that directly affect the poor and dispossessed. My video deals with anti-trafficking as an issue - it inter-cuts creatively between street theatre being performed in the slums of Dhaka with the real life harrowing story of Amina Begum (not her real name) who was trafficked to Malaysia but managed to escape in spite of not having any English, Tamil or Malay, the three languages spoken in Malaysia.
