Abstract

The literacy rate in Bangladesh is as low as 27%. This is the story of Champa, a slum dweller in Dhaka who worked as a sweeper. She decided to undergo literacy training because she felt that her life was disadvantaged - with literacy has come a sense of self-confidence. She is now a cashier in her community organisation and even more importantly, active in educating her own children.
