Abstract

The paper reviews the efficacy of various psychotropic drugs (antidepressants, neuroleptics, benzodiazepines, carbamazepine, lithium) in the prevention of suicidal behavior, dealing with the issue from both treatment and research perspectives. The clinical pharmacology of aggressive behavior is also briefly reviewed, as an understanding of this aspect is likely to shed some light on the main topic of the paper.
