Abstract

In England, there are approximately three times as many beds in care homes (both residential and nursing homes) as there are in National Health Service (NHS) hospitals. Despite the recent Commission on Residential Care providing numerous case studies of good practice, care homes persist in the collective imagination as places of dread and last resort
