    Abstract

Outlines the current policy context relating to childhood obesity, up-to-date recommendations for identifying and diagnosing obesity in this age group, estimated prevalence based on standardised measurements, and what the health implications for obese children and adolescents are. Although the focus is on obesity, overweight is also discussed, as a risk factor for becoming obese and has negative implications for health and well-being.
