Abstract

This paper takes our analyses of Community Based Festivals (CBF) and reconsiders them through the lenses generated by Community Based Tourism (CBT). We have developed a reputation through our three books (Jepson and Clarke, 2014, 2016 and 2017). Here we take our definition of CBF and explores the issues surrounding the construction and delivery of these type of festivals. We particularly challenge the nature of the top down – bottom up debates, often used to explore the power relations at play in and around communities.
