    Abstract

This book is published by Harper Collins as a volume in the 'Big Cat' reading scheme. It was written for confident readers aged 9-11 and offers an historical overview spanning two millennia of crime and punishment in England and on occasions, other parts of the UK. Drawing on a wide range of primary historical sources, it attempts to engage children in thinking about history, as well as reading and imagining it.
