Abstract
This booklet, authored by Dr Rasha Abdelsalam Elshenawy (October 2018), provides a public health awareness narrative on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through the story of the “superbug” (قصة البكتيريا الخارقة). It explains how misuse of antibiotics, including incomplete courses, incorrect doses, and self-medication—drives the emergence of resistant bacterial strains. The text highlights the global threat of AMR, referencing predictions that resistant infections could cause up to 10 million annual deaths by 2050, exceeding those from cancer or road traffic accidents.
