Abstract

This chapter addresses the fatigue behaviour of self-piercing riveted joints. Since the process has been used to join aluminium alloy sheets by the automotive industry, the chapter begins with a comparison of the fatigue behaviour of self-piercing rivet joints with resistance spot-welds. The factors that affect fatigue behaviour are then discussed, followed by a description of fretting fatigue and its effects.
