The increasing world energy demand and climate change suggest exploration of alternative energy resources that can be renewable, sustainable, and cost-effective. Biofuels and hydrogen energy generated from clean renewable energy resources cannot only confront the problem of high energy demand but can also help with carbon emissions reduction. The hydrogen market is growing and its potential use in buildings, the transport sector, and as an energy storage medium makes it a viable option in the energy transition. Hydrogen can be produced by means of electrochemical, thermochemical, or biochemical processes. This book chapter provides an overview of how to produce hydrogen via the biomass gasification process. It broadly discussed different types of gasifiers and explained the key reactions playing a vital role to produce hydrogen. Finally, the chapter details the carbon capture and storage technologies that can be integrated into the biomass gasification process to reduce the carbon footprint of produced hydrogen.
