Abstract

Medication Management and Safe Use: Hospital Standards, Quality Improvement, and Patient Safety is an educational presentation authored by Dr Rasha Abdelsalam Elshenawy. It provides a comprehensive overview of the medication use process, including prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, administering, and monitoring—and explains how effective management reduces errors and improves patient outcomes. The lecture highlights the importance of Medication Use Evaluation (MUE) as a tool for assessing safety and quality, and reviews Joint Commission International (JCI) standards for medication management. Special focus is given to the identification and control of high-alert medications, compliance with regulatory frameworks, and the pharmacist’s role within multidisciplinary teams. By addressing both hospital accreditation standards and real-world quality improvement practices, this presentation equips healthcare professionals with strategies to enhance patient safety, reduce medication-related harm, and strengthen healthcare system performance.
