Abstract
My aim in this keynote lecture is to look at HBO series as examples of how women are regarded within popular culture arguing that there is a direct link between the way patriarchy views motherhood and that this inevitably leads to women’s oppression. Ultimately, whether maternal or not, women are inextricably tied to their biological function in our society and it is this link to biology and reproduction that is at the heart of women’s economic and ideological oppression.
