Abstract
The paper introduces the background to the development of the Nimrod Airborne Early Warning (AEW) system and its eventual demise. The Nimrod program represents the largest development effort of the early 1070s. It is aimed at giving NATO a military advantage over the Warsaw Pact. It also represents a classical catalog of failures with regard to the field of Engineering of Computer Based Systems (ECBS).
