Abstract
This article discusses how the emergence of Big Data initiatives diminishes the efficacy of the informed consent rules of data protection regulation, with reference to the EU law regime. It examines alternative consent mechanisms for the Big Data era, including the new generation of technological empowerment tools that allow users to store, manage and deploy their own data securely.
