Abstract

This study outlines the useful biopoly composites, using additive manufacturing (AM) techniques to print biodegradable materials in the past two decades. It aims to examine the history of various materials, their methodology of composite formations and steps in the implementation of AM technology with several processes/techniques. The evaluation of the design of the active components of potential compounds, methods and efficacy of polymer matrix particles that are common in AM compounds for ceramic, metal and fiber reinforced matrix as well as their various applications were extensively reported. This review also gives an overview of 3D printing techniques for manufacturing various polymer composite materials, properties, performances of 3D-printed polymer matrix composite parts and their applications in the fields of biomedical engineering. Lastly, the critical limitations of polymer matrix are identified to motivate more future and cutting-edge research on 3D printing.
