Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentationpeer-review

Abstract

This conference presentation demonstrates a comprehensive overview of quality and safety principles in pharmacy practice, highlighting the pharmacist’s role in preventing medication errors and promoting patient safety. It discusses the medication use process—prescribing, transcribing, dispensing, administering, and monitoring—and examines critical control points where safety issues may arise. The paper aligns with accreditation frameworks including the Saudi Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI), the Joint Commission International (JCI), and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). It also explores the Essential Safety Requirements (ESR) for hospitals, with specific focus on high-alert, look-alike sound-alike (LASA), and hazardous medications. The presentation emphasises the importance of medication management policies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and continuous quality improvement to ensure safe and effective patient care.
