title = "Realising the Obsolete...: Creating performance material for the concert-hall",
abstract = "Our thirst for change and the {\textquoteleft}update{\textquoteright} has created enormous issues for any type of musical performance that involves audio-visual electronic technology (analogue or digital). The concert series {\textquoteleft}Ritual in Transfigured Time{\textquoteright} is a project demonstrating a reinvention of early film and electronica for the 21st Century concert-hall and admirably demonstrated this issue.Rob has programmed a number of seminal works allowing then to be performed and projected to a new audience in the 21st Century.Time-lapse of a {\textquoteleft}Ritual in Transfigured Time{\textquoteright}:https://youtu.be/WtL-VBdp0Gw ",

note = "After Ives – Stephen Montague The live electronics, originally using digital effects boxes (Yamaha SPX90) and pre-rendered tape (with optional string quartet, flute/piccolo and marching band) has been coded into a standalone application allowing a sound projectionist to perform with the pianist in a live capacity. Realisation by Rob Godman at the request of Philip Mead – 2011 Psalm 90 for Mixed Choir, Organ and Bells – Charles Ives This realisation had to overcome the significant logistical problem of integrating a church organ and {\textquoteleft}bells{\textquoteright} (Ives{\textquoteright} description what {\textquoteleft}bells{\textquoteright} mean is limited…). The church bells of St Mary{\textquoteright}s Church, Guilden Morden were each sampled and the organ part was also recorded as a series of cues. The project was coded in such a way to allow a performer on a MIDI keyboard to play the bells live and also to access the organ cues at the desired points. These sounds were then diffused over an 8.1 speaker array. Realisation by Rob Godman at the request of Philip Mead – 2013 Ricercare una melodia – Jonathan Harvey Originally written for analogue tape delay units, this realization is an upgrade of an upgrade (the work had previously been coded but needed upgrading again to make it performable with modern software and hardware). It was converted to 8-channel audio with better quality reverberation units. Realisation by Rob Godman at the request of Kate Romano for the {\textquoteleft}Ritual in Transfigured Time{\textquoteright} tour and the Cheltenham Festival– 2015 Po{\`e}me {\'e}lectronique – Varese This coded version is closely related (the linear content is the same) of the Kees Tazelaar version. Coded to make audio-visuals performable in a live capacity for the {\textquoteleft}Ritual in Transfigured Time{\textquoteright} tour and the Cheltenham Festival, the work is a faithful rendition of the audio-visual experience shown in the Philips Pavillion, Expo 58. Realisation by Rob Godman at the request of Kate Romano and in terms with the Albersen and Ricordi license for the {\textquoteleft}Ritual in Transfigured Time{\textquoteright} tour and the Cheltenham Festival– 2016 ",
