Abstract
The application of self-piercing riveting in the automotive sector came to prominence in the 1990s when it became one of the joining techniques for aluminium vehicle bodies. This introductory chapter describes the self-piercing riveting process and discusses some of its advantages and applications in automotive vehicles.
