Abstract

This panel proposes to explore horror global cinema through four feminist video essays which focus on independent, inclusive, and international horror cinema. The overarching aim of the video essays is to highlight the importance of reframing history, independent filmmakers and horror cinema while working towards a new history of horror. The four academics to present in this panel, Bruna Foletto Lucas, Tuğçe Kutlu, Krista Calvo and Dr Kate Robertson, aim to frame the discussion in order to focus on the non-mainstream nature of their present work by first, focusing on the importance of rewriting horror history and the significance of expanding the discussion to global horror; and second, by offering an unconventional mode of analysis – video essays - which has been gaining traction in recent years.
