Abstract

One hundred blood samples from Syrian Awassi sheep were taken from the stations belonging to General Management of Agricultural Researches and were analyzed at the molecular biotechnology laboratory in the faculty of technological engineering, Aleppo university. This research aims to study genetic diversity among individuals of Awassi sheep breed to help the breeders designing effective programs to protect the genetic pool for this important local and global breed. Microsatellite markers technique is used to study genetic diversity for 12 groups of mentioned sheep using 19 molecular markers of microsatellites. It is obtained 113 alleles and polymorphic information content value equals to 0, 6401 for all used markers. Cluster analysis separates the genetic differentiation between improved sheep and non-improved sheep. It could separate black-headed sheep from brown-headed sheep.
