Abstract

The emergence of disruptive information systems has equipped many organizations with the competitive advantage to outperform their rivals. It has also resulted in production of varied and large volumes of data. Contemporary businesses have started to implement big data analytics to extract value and to inform their decisions. Big data analytics (BDA) and competitive intelligence (CI) have been an important area of research for both academics and practitioners, yet there is a limited understanding as to how big data driven decision making and their outcomes create value within an organization’s competitive intelligence. This paper attempts to bridge the gap between the two concepts, and provides a thorough assessment of the implications of BDA adoption and its impact on organizations’ competitive intelligence. The context for the study is the real estate industry in the UAE. The findings provide the necessary variables for the development of a formal CI process framework in presence of BDA technologies.
