Abstract
Some studies are suggesting that the contribution of PM10 from non-exhaust sources are comparable to those from exhaust emissions. This has major implications for the control of airborne particulate emissions in towns and cities, particularly as all current regulation is targeted against exhaust emissions. The contribution of exhaust and non-exhaust emissions of particulate matter from road traffic is highlighted, along with the estimates of traffic-related particle emissions and the various factors that influence these emissions.
