Abstract
To Be Here (Installation, 2016) an immersive multi-channel video and sound work, with octaphonic sound-scape by composer Rob Godman. It was commissioned by the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, USA and presented in the museum's media gallery from April - November 2016. To Be Here examines the long-term displacement of Sahrawi refugees living in camps in the Sahara desert region of Algeria (one of the longest refugee crisis to date). Shaping an alternative form of documentary, where staged performance, dramatic camera and personal narrative are interwoven, the project attempts to create a close-looking psychological truth using partially fictive visuals. The research and production residency in the camps was funded by the Cultural Association of Seville, Spain, as part of ARTifariti.
