Abstract
This poster presents a digital innovation in antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) designed to transform monitoring and clinical decision-making through a real-time dashboard. The project synthesises findings from three UK NHS studies (2019–2024), including a systematic review of 8,763 articles, retrospective analysis of 640 patient records, and a survey of 240 healthcare professionals. These studies identified critical monitoring and communication gaps that hinder timely antibiotic review and optimisation.
The developed Excel-based Start Smart, Then Focus dashboard enables real-time tracking of empirical and pathogen-directed therapy, highlighting inappropriate antibiotic use beyond 72 hours and providing ward-level data to support targeted education. Validation confirmed clinical accuracy, affordability, and scalability across NHS settings.
This innovation marks a transition from retrospective auditing to proactive AMS management, bridging the gap between policy and practice and offering a replicable model for sustainable antimicrobial stewardship worldwide.
