Abstract

This chapter seeks to help the reader understand the nexus of marginalisation and events. It begins with a discussion of some of the myriad ways in which groups and/or communities may be marginalised, along with some of the consequences of marginalisation. This provides the necessary context for an examination of events and the ways in which they may engage with the margins and the marginalised, drawing out the contributions of subsequent chapters.
