Abstract

Sport is a form of physical activity that can contribute towards improving health across the life span. However the proportion of adults engaged in sport decreases with age. The aim of this report is to provide information on why older adults do not participate in sport, why older adults may re-engage with sport and to discuss potential strategies to engage this age group in sport. For this research, older adults were defined as those aged 50+ years.

The aims of this research were to:
1. Investigate the reasons why older adults do not participate in sport
2. Investigate the reasons why older adults may re-engage in sport
3. Recommend strategies to engage older adults in sport
