Dr Charlotte Gautrey


Dr Charlotte Gautrey joined Hertfordshire University in February 2016, and is currently a Senior Lecturer in Sports Therapy. She is also the Commercial Lead for Sport, Health and Exercise. From 2013 - 2016 Charlotte was a Lecturer in Sports Therapy at the University College Birmingham. 


Charlotte has a particular interest in functional ankle instability and lower limb landing biomechanics. She has a variety of additional research interests which include electromyography, force plate analysis and isokinetic dynamometry. In 2013, Charlotte was awarded her PhD entitled: The biomechanics of the dynamic defense mechanism, from the University of Hertfordshire.


Charlotte is an early career researcher, supervising her first PhD student who is investigating: A three dimensional biomechanical analysis of a simulated ankle sprain during static and dynamic activity. To date, Charlotte has published peer-reviewed articles in the International Journal of Sports Medicine, Gait & Posture and BMJ Open. She has also presented at a variety of conferences, the most recent being the International Olympic Committee conference in Monaco. Charlotte is also a reviewer for the International Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Human Kinetics.


Charlotte is currently undertaking collaborative research with the University of Birmingham and the University College Birmingham which is entitled: The effect of cervical spine manual mobilisations on pain pressure thresholds and upper limb neurodynamics. She is also collaborating with the University of Birmingham to write three systematic reviews in the areas of upper limb neurodynamics, lower limb neurodynamics and behavioural change techniques in knee and hip osteoarthritis patients.
