I am an experienced nurse academic specialising in the care for older people and nurse education. I started my working life as a practitioner and leader in the clinical care for older people. Most of my career has been concerned with education and research in nursing and older people’s care. I have organised and delivered education from diploma level through to PhD.

In 2013 I joined the University of Hertfordshire. I am the Programme Tutor for the MSc in Contemporary Nursing and I contribute to the Dementia Champions project led by Professor Claire Goodman. I hope to use my experience and skills to develop practitioners’ capacity to sensitively deliver practical and emotional care for older people. I plan to contribute to the research agenda by joining a supervision team for PhD students studying in my field.

In my PhD I studied the experience of living bereavement for staff and residents in a continuing care environment. Much of my education delivery and research interest focus on exploring and developing emotional care for older people in areas such as bereavement and end of life care.  I have a good reputation for providing clinical supervision. I have supervised groups of practitioners from My Home Life (Age UK and City University) and Admiral Nurses (Dementia UK) as well as NHS multidisciplinary teams in acute and continuing care for older people.

I developed excellent management and leadership skills in my roles as Programme Director for the pre-registration nursing programme and Divisional Lead of the Adult Years Division at City University.
