Dr David Prowse is a Cell and Molecular Biologist specialising in Cancer Biology, who has 25 years of experience working and teaching in the area of cancer research in the UK and USA. His early academic interest was in the biology of gap junctions, and this broadened to regulation of epithelial differentiation and stem cells, cancer development and progression, and the role of cancer stem cells. The recent focus of Dr Prowse’s research has been on prostate and skin cancer, and has two main aims: (a) to identify and characterize genes contributing to the development and progression of cancer, focusing on the role of signalling pathways, cancer stem cells and the process leading to androgen independent prostate cancer; (b) to determine the contribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) to the development of skin cancers. Dr Prowse has contributed to research published in a range of Journals including: British Journal of Dermatology, Cancer Cell International, Cell Research, Current Biology, Development, Developmental Biology, Developmental Cell,  Experimental Dermatology, Histopathology, Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of Cell Science, Nature, Pathology and PLoS One.
