Dr Karl Egerton


Karl Egerton is Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of Hertfordshire. Karl studied philosophy at UCL, University of London (BA), Christ's College, University of Cambridge (MPhil) and Birkbeck College, University of London (PhD). He was an Associate Lecturer at Birkbeck College before coming to UH.

Karl's main research interests are in the methodology of metaphysics (sometimes called 'metametaphysics') and in the history of analytic philosophy, particularly the developments that led from the founding of the Vienna Circle, through the work of Rudolf Carnap, to the work of W. V. Quine. He is currently examining how to articulate the scientific and philosophical method of explication and its implications for the theories to which it is applied.
