Research interests

Peter Richardson is Professor of Film and Subject Group Leader for Screen Media at the University of Hertfordshire. Peter’s current research investigates the application of new technologies for the creation of visual effects rich cinematic narratives. He is Director of the Games and Visual Effects Research Lab where he heads a team of researchers investigating the deployment of immersive and mixed reality technologies for cinema and games. During the early 2000’s Peter ran a successful film production company with a multi-million pound turnover but returned to academia in 2004 to take up a post at the University of Dundee as a researcher / Programme Leader in Digital Film. From 2010 to 2014 Peter was Principle Investigator of the €5.3M EU funded ‘North Sea Screen Partnership’. In 2016 he received €1.6M in EU funding for ‘Create Converge’ a pan European project which aims to map and develop Northern Europe’s capabilities in film, games and immersive visualization. Also know for his work as a film Director Peter’s films have been screened on television and in cinemas worldwide, recent productions include a feature film adaptation of the Sir Peter Maxwell Davies opera “Miss Donnithorne’s Maggott” which premiered at the St Magnus Festival Scotland. The film has been screened in Singapore, Japan, Brazil, Germany and France and was released on Blu Ray in 2013.
