Dr Thanasis Tektonidis MSc PhD RNutr(gr) RD(gr)

Nutrition & Dietetics, Lecturer

Overview

I joined the University of Hertfordshire as a full-time Lecturer in Nutrition & Dietetics in September 2020, after employment as an Associate Lecturer & Researcher at Oxford Brookes University. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Nutrition & Dietetics (Greece), an MSc in Human Nutrition (Sweden) which was awarded with “distinction” and a PhD in Nutrition (UK) with main focus on nutritional epidemiology, exploring the relationship of diet quality over adulthood and later life walking speed, indicating overall functioning.

Currently, I work within the School of Life and Medical Sciences and contribute to the teaching in both the BSc(Hons) Nutrition and BSc(Hons) Dietetics courses. I am the module leader of Level 6 Public Health Nutrition Modules and of final year Nutrition Research Projects. I also contribute to several Level 4 and Level 5 modules within the programme.

My current duties also include acting as Admissions Co-Tutor for BSc(Hons) Nutrition and BSc(Hons) Dietetics, working closely with marketing to enhance the programme’s external profile. Finally, I am also research active and plan to contribute to nutritional epidemiological projects and establish research collaborations within university.

I am a registered Nutritionist (RNutr) and Dietitian (RD) in Greece, and Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) and I am in the process of registering with the AfN, the HCPC and of obtaining the full fellowship of the HEA.

My goal is to provide evidence-based knowledge and critical analysis skills so as to create a vibrant and innovative next generation of nutritionists and dietitians.
