I am interested in agricultural and food systems, the policies that influence these and the impact that policy change has on those affected.  I am currently working on a project funded by the Cadogan Charity that looks at means to achieve a more sustainable system for British beef and sheep production. I am also working with the University of Kent on a five-country study that is investigating the efficiency of urban agriculture, with UK case studies being community gardens in London.

My background is in agricultural economics and I have recently applied cost benefit methodology to investigate the social returns to community farming as well as looked at the impact of COVID-19 on the urban gardening sector.

I have previously worked as a Research Fellow at City, University of London Centre for Food Policy, where my work focused on the implications of Brexit for food and farming in the UK. I have also worked at a number of food policy institutions: I have been involved in evaluations of the Rural Development Programme for DEFRA in England and Wales; I have worked on a WTO project to look at the costs and benefits of upgrading SPS capacity to maintain or exploit markets; and I have written for the CAP Monitor. For the last twelve years I have tutored external SOAS/CeDEP students online in Research Methods and supervised a number of Master’s research dissertations.
