With John Phillips from Maydencroft Farm we are looking at movement patterns of long-horn cattle used for conservational grazing in order to understand how they choose where to graze and how they affect vegetation. To find out how animals move, we use a small GPS devices attached to a neck collar which we put on an animal. Longhorns are docile animals and it is easy to put or retrieve the collar. If we learn more about grazing behaviour we can better design grazing regimes to control vegetation and to optimise grazing for meat production.
