Abstract

Begins with a general overview of urban tourism, then proceeds to look at Canterbury, UK, as an example of a small historic city with a major dependence on this form of economic activity. Details the tourism policies adopted by Canterbury City Council, and the problems that arise through visitor saturation in peak season. High levels of visitor use in the town centre will require a comprehensive management plan for tourism, which could include recommendations made by the English Tourist Board. -C. Lloyd
